Hello, I am Holly Selden and have been photographing for 17 years! Over the last almost two decades I have photographed many families and am here to help you figure out- What’s the best photography package for me?
As a family photographer it is common to have several packages to suit your potential needs and this also goes for other sessions such as senior photography. Photography packages are broken down either by how many images are included per package or by time. For my personal business, I go by session time. Let me explain why, and what package would be best for you.
For my business personally, I do not believe in limiting photos included per package. I have done both ways while in business but always felt bad when a family could see the other photos I have completed for them to potentially buy, but could not afford at the moment. If I put the work in and have beautiful images of your family, I want you to have them!
Now, let’s break down the family photography packages that I offer so you can choose what is best for you.
15 Minute Family Photography Package
The 15 minute photography session is the most affordable package, but not meant for everyone. This package is basically an in-and-out photography session best for a small family with an child around 7 years old or above. With children in this age range your child is usually a little more on the calmer side and understand that this session will be quick so they can get back to having fun in a few minutes. With this family photography session it is taken at one location with one outfit and is photos with both parents, a few individual photos of your child with both parents and then a couple individual photos of the child.
For senior photography this is best for a quick session at one location with one outfit.
30 Minute Family Photography Package
The 30 minute family photography package is best for families at one location but gives you a little extra time for your children to get the wiggles out. It is best to come to these sessions a few minutes early to be ready by the time your session begins for any last minute adjustments needed such as fixing hair or wiping your little one’s faces. These sessions are best for families who have little ones who have shorter attention spans but can handle being photographed if we keep it short and sweet. I always start with traditional images in the beginning and then will break down into groupings after. I can generally fit in family photos, photos of each child with each parent and then a sibling group photo. The amount of photos included depends on cooperation but you can generally expect approximately 30-40 photos.
For senior photography this is best for a quicker session where the senior can have one outfit at two close together locations, or for two outfits and two locations that are close together. Travel time for each location is included and so the key is to keep the locations close together to maximize photos.
60 Minute Family Photography Package
The 60 minute family photography package is best for families that need extra wiggle time for children. This is often necessary for parents of toddlers. Having extra time removes the stress of feeling rushed and you can be sure to get the photos that you are hoping for. With the 60 minute session I always start with traditional photos of the family. I try to do this relatively quick in the beginning because I know the wiggles are about to begin. Toddlers tend to not be big fans of staying still. So after the first initial moments of your session we start silly photos. This will include photos of you playing or interacting with your child, like tickling for example to keep their attention and get genuine smiles. If one child needs a break I will focus on one child with a parents and get photos of you interacting with that child and loving on them. After that, we switch. After a short break the other child is generally ready for loving and tickling by mom or dad. With this particular session there will be a mixture of traditional and candid, but with this session you can also choose to do more than one outfit or more than one location depending on cooperation. With the 60 minute family photography session you can expect approximately 50 or more photos.
For senior photography this is great for two to three outfits at multiple locations in town.
90 Minute Family Photography Session
90 minute family sessions are not needed for everyone, but I highly recommend this for newborn sessions, large family sessions with multiple generations or a senior who would love multiple locations for a large variety in your photos.
Newborn family sessions require a lot of time. With newborn sessions I “let the newborn lead the session”, this means that I go off of what your particular child’s needs are. It is not uncommon for a baby to need breaks for diaper changes or being fed. You may also need additional time for your little one to calm down if they just woke up from a nap, or we want to soothe your little one to fall asleep for those precious photos you want. Babies do not understand and so they need the grace and time to get comfortable. I often do “lifestyle” photos of your family loving on the baby, each parents with the child, sibling photos if there are siblings and then hopefully individual photos of the baby if your child is comfortable. I do not force posing, your newborn is the boss of this session.
For large family photos this allows you to have a large variety. This can include multiple sets of family members and grandparents. For example, you can have photos of grandparents with the entire family, then break down into each individual family and also have photos of all grandchildren with the grandparents. This can give you all the combinations you are hoping for.
For senior photography, this gives you the best variety in images. Multiple outfits and locations are included to give you different looks.
In the 90 minute package you can expect approximately 100 or more photos depending on cooperation.
